Natural Knitwear produces fine knitted items of superior quality using 100% untreated undyed luxury natural fibres.
This philosophy evolves from a deep concern regarding the fact that the manufacture of synthetic fibres (i.e. petro-chemical related fibres) for the textile industry contributes to the overall negative environmental impact caused by the burning of fossil fuels - also known as global warming.
These factors combined with a love of natural fibres and a desire to show people their inherent qualities/beauty in their untreated form have inspired the designer to create the Natural Knitwear label.
Totally untreated natural fibres are completely organic and therefore biodegradable - unlike synthetic articles which when eventually disposed of congest landfill sights needlessly for generations.
The designer is currently focusing on producing tasselled knitted scarves and shawls in wild African silk which is lustrous gold in colour and completely unique to Southern Africa (as displayed here).
The Wild Silk Africa initiative in South Africa is developing a sustainable project in the North West Province of the country. Here local rural people earn much needed income by expertly harvesting and de-gumming the wild silk cocoons (which are only found in indigenous trees) within their Tribal Trust Lands. From here the fibres are spun and beautiful products created!
